You Can Stay Informed Without Staying Overwhelmed. Here’s How.

Election seasons are hard on mental health. The constant stream of information, opinion, outrage, and uncertainty takes a real toll, even on people who are not particularly politically engaged.
If you have been feeling more anxious, irritable, or emotionally depleted lately, your social media feed may be contributing more than you realize.
Two small shifts that can make a meaningful difference:
Set time limits on social media. Most phones have built-in screen time tools that make this easy. Even a modest limit reduces the cumulative exposure to content that keeps your nervous system activated. You do not have to disconnect entirely. You just need boundaries around how much and when.
Be intentional about what you follow. There is a difference between seeking out information when you are ready for it and having it appear in your feed unprompted at any hour of the day. Audit who you follow and ask honestly whether each account adds to your sense of being informed or simply adds to your anxiety. You are allowed to unfollow, mute, or step back without guilt.
Staying informed is important. Staying saturated is not the same thing.
