You might already understand why you feel the way you do

You have done the work. You have talked it through. And you still feel stuck, in your body, in your reactions, in the same patterns.

That is where Brainspotting comes in. It is a gentle, brain-based approach that helps you move past that stuck feeling without needing to relive or explain every detail. At Holistic Consultation, we offer Brainspotting therapy at our Columbus and Troy, Ohio offices, as well as through online therapy across Ohio.

What is Brainspotting, in real terms?

Brainspotting works with the part of your brain that does not always use words. During a session, you start to notice where your eyes naturally land while you are thinking about an issue. That eye position, or brainspot, connects to where your nervous system is holding onto something. When you stay with that spot, at your pace, your brain and body can finally release what they have been carrying.

You do not need to explain everything. You do not even need to talk if you do not want to. Your brain already knows how to heal.

how it works

What actually happens in a Brainspotting session

Start with what is bothering you.

This might be a memory, an emotion, a feeling in your body, or something as general as anxiety or feeling stuck. You do not need a complete explanation, just a starting point.

Find your brainspot.

Using a pointer or your natural eye position, we locate where the issue shows up in your visual field. It is often subtle, but your nervous system knows.

Simply focus.

Once you find a spot, simply notice what comes up: thoughts, feelings, body sensations, even silence.

You may notice physical sensations like warmth or tightness, emotions ranging from sadness to calm, memories that surface on their own, or shifts in your inner dialogue. Every response is valid. Some sessions bring something big. Others feel quiet. There is no right way for it to go.

You do not need to talk to heal.

Brainspotting works with the part of your brain that stores body memory, and that part does not use words. You are always welcome to share what feels meaningful, and it is also completely okay to stay quiet. Silence often gives your nervous system the room it needs to do its deepest work.

who we help

Who Brainspotting can help

Brainspotting may be a good fit if:

You feel emotionally stuck despite insight, self-help, or past therapy
You carry stress in your body, not just your thoughts
You struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, or reactions that feel bigger than the moment
You are grieving, burned out, or feeling disconnected from yourself
You have ADHD and feel emotional rejection or overwhelm
You want a deeper, body based approach without spending every session talking

Many clients choose Brainspotting because it feels more gentle than traditional talk therapy, and it reaches places that words alone have not been able to touch.

What clients notice

Feeling less anxious or on edge
Emotional relief without having to rehash the past
Improved focus, sleep, and regulation
Less intensity around old memories or triggers
A stronger sense of safety in their own body
Feeling more present, grounded, and clear

Everyone's experience is different, and there is no single way it is supposed to feel. Some sessions bring noticeable shifts. Others are quieter. Both are doing their job.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Brainspotting therapy?

Brainspotting is a brain and body based therapy that helps you process and release using eye positions and focused attention, without needing to talk through every detail.

Do I have to talk during Brainspotting?

No. You share only what feels comfortable, and healing can happen even in silence.

Is Brainspotting evidence-based and safe?

Brainspotting is a well established approach used by clinicians worldwide, and many clients see meaningful improvement, especially when talk therapy alone has not been enough.

How is Brainspotting different from talk therapy?

Talk therapy helps you understand your experiences through conversation. Brainspotting works directly with the part of your brain that stores body memory, which often holds material that words alone cannot fully reach.

How is Brainspotting different from EMDR?

EMDR follows a structured protocol focused on specific memories, while Brainspotting is more open ended and lets your brain lead the pace and direction of the work. Some clients benefit from one approach, others from a combination of both.

How many Brainspotting sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and your nervous system. Some clients notice a shift within one session, others need several, and some benefit from ongoing work alongside other therapy.

Can Brainspotting be combined with other types of therapy?

Yes. Brainspotting works well with ongoing individual therapy and other approaches offered at Holistic Consultation, depending on what you need.

Will my clinician talk a lot during my Brainspotting session?

Not usually, and that is intentional. Staying quiet helps your brain remain in its natural processing state. Occasional check ins are usual and you are always welcome to ask for more support or conversation if that feels better for you.
