Some things are ready to move faster than fifty minutes a week allows

If you have a specific goal, a relationship you want to strengthen, or a pattern you are ready to shift, a weekly fifty-minute appointment is not always the right pace.  Longer, uninterrupted blocks of time and a clear plan can be helpful.

That is what a therapy intensive is. It is a structured, extended block of therapy time, organized around one focus and guided by a defined method.

We offer EMDR intensives, Brainspotting intensives, and couples intensives in Columbus and Troy, Ohio. We set the length and structure of each one around what you are working on.

Is a therapy intensive a good fit?

Intensives tend to be a strong fit if you:

  • Want to focus on one specific event, relationship, or pattern rather than an open-ended weekly process
  • Have done therapy before and want to put that foundation to focused use
  • Are facing a deadline, transition, or decision and want dedicated time to work on it
  • Are traveling to Columbus or Troy and want to plan your time well
  • Are part of a couple that wants uninterrupted time together instead of fifty minutes fit between work and family

Three Types

EMDR Intensives

EMDR is a structured, phased therapy that helps your brain finish processing memories and experiences. In an intensive, we organize the work into preparation, processing, and integration, and we keep the pace that feels comfortable for you.

Brainspotting Intensives

Brainspotting is a focused, body-based approach that uses where you look to identify and work with what is present for you. An intensive gives that process uninterrupted time to unfold at its own pace.

Couples Intensives

A couples intensive gives you and your partner extended, focused time to slow down, understand the patterns between you, and practice new ways of communicating, with a clinician guiding the process from start to finish.

How a therapy intensive works

Every intensive follows a clear structure,
so you know how your time is being used.

  • Planning conversation. We talk about what you want to work on, what has been helpful before, and what length and pacing fit your goals and schedule.
  • Preparation. Before the focused work begins, we make sure you have the grounding and skills to take part comfortably.
  • Focused sessions. Extended blocks of time are dedicated to your identified focus, using EMDR, Brainspotting, or a structured couples approach.
  • Integration and next steps. We review what came up and talk through what support would be useful afterward, including a return to weekly sessions if that suits you.
